WINCHESTER AND PORTSMOUTH GUILD

ANNUAL MEETING AT PORTSMOUTH.

The annual general meeting of the Winchester and Portsmouth Diocesan Guild, held at Portsmouth on July 7th, was attended by members from Alverstoke, Bishopstoke, Blackmoor, Bournemouth, Bramshott, Fareham, Micheldever, Newport (I.O.W.), North Stoneham, Petersfield, Portsmouth (Cathedral and St. Mary's), Southampton, Sherborne St. John, Titchfield, Wickham and Wonston, and visitors from Chester, Rugby and Worthing.

Regret was expressed at the absence of the Master (Mr. G. Williams), who had not completely recovered from his indisposition, and the wish was expressed that a letter should be sent him wishing him a speedy recovery. At the business meeting the Rev. K. W. Felstead, Vicar of St. Michael's, Southampton, was in the chair, supported by the hon. general secretary (Mr. F. W. Rogers) and the hon. general treasurer (Mr. W. Linter). The election of officers was as follows: Master, Mr. G. Williams; hon. general secretary, Mr. F. W. Rogers; hon. treasurer, Mr. W. Linter; recorder of peals, Mr. A. V. Davis; auditor, Mr. G. Smith; representatives on Central Council, Messrs. G. Williams, F. W. Rogers, G. Pullinger and the Rev. K. W. Felstead. It was decided to rescind the rule governing the size of the war-time annual report, and to publish something approaching the normal report as conditions permit.

Mr. G. Pullinger gave an account of the recent Central Council meeting held in Birmingham. It was decided to hold the next annual meeting at Bournemouth on July 1st, 1946.

Evensong, which was fully choral, was at St. Mary's, at which the Vicar (the. Rev. W. J. Smith) officiated and preached. Tea was served in the Parish Institute, after which the members visited the tower and the bells were rung in methods up to and including Cambridge, Superlative, Bristol and London Surprise Major.
