WINCHESTER AND PORTSMOUTH DIOCESAN GUILD.

A quarterly meeting of the Portsmouth District was held at Petersfield on Saturday, May 2nd, when the following towers were represented: Alverstoke, Bramshott, East Meon, Gosport, Hambledon, Portsmouth (Cathedral and St. Mary’s), Petersfield, Steep, Swanmore, Titchfield, and visitors from Blackmoor, Dorking, King’s Somborne, North Stoneham, Rogate and Winchester. The Guild’s service was conducted by the Vicar of Petersfield (Rev. E. G. A. Kent), who also gave an address.

Tea was served in St. Peter’s Hall, and the business meeting followed, the Vicar taking the chair.

New members were elected, including the Vicar as an honorary member, and Rev. A. V. Wardle, Messrs. E. T. Chantry, A. Fisher, P. Fisher, P. Strugnell, C. James and A. James as ringing members.

It was decided to hold the next meeting at Soberton on July 25th, with a by-meeting at Titchfield on a Wednesday evening.

Votes of thanks were accorded to the Vicars of Petersfield and Steep for the use of the bells and to the organist.

The members then returned to the tower for further ringing, which ranged from Grandsire and Stedman Triples to London and Bristol Surprise Major.
