Portsmouth District

The first quarterly meeting of 1963 was held at St. Peter's, Bishop's Waltham, on April 20th, and, considering the atrocious weather, was well attended.

Ringing commenced at approximately 3 p.m. At 4 p.m. a short service was conducted by the Rector (Rev. C. D. Biddell). Tea was served an the Church Hall by the ladies of the parish, assisted by the local Girl Guides. We were pleased to welcome the Rector to take tea with us.

At the business meeting new ringing members elected were: Mr. G. Verrill (Alverstoke) and Rev. E. J. Henstridge (Vicar of Soberton), Mr. R. Harris, of Portsmouth Cathedral, was elected to compounding membership. Votes of thanks were accorded to the Rector and those who served tea.

Next quarterly meeting: Catherington, July 20th; practice meeting, if possible, May 25th, Wickham, 6-9 p.m.

Methods rung during the day were: Grandsire, Stedman and Erin Triples, Plain Bob Major, Double Norwich Court Bob Major, Kent T.B. Major, Cambridge and Yorkshire Surprise Major.

The ringing was concluded with a fine lower at 8.30 p.m.
